Barbara Rosenzweig’s love of nature began as a child growing up in culturally rich Philadelphia, PA. There, she studied a variety of art media and the sciences, and as an adult, she combined two of her passions – Art and Nature - in both her career as a biology teacher and as a watercolor artist.

It is that love of nature and art that motivated Barbara to share her knowledge and intense sense of wonder with her young biology students. As a teacher since 1967, she encouraged students to learn from observation and draw each studied specimen, noting its uniquely intricate design. Regardless of their artistic ability, her goal was to enable children to really “see,” understand, and appreciate the vibrancy of all living things. These are skills that she, herself, uses in creating her watercolor paintings.

Artist Statement and Biography

Now as a retired teacher and full time artist, Barbara works exclusively in watercolors, using their wonderful translucent qualities to great advantage. Continuing her love of the rich color she achieved in the oil paintings of her youth, her watercolors are stunningly vibrant and vivid. Florida remains Barbara’s favorite place of inspiration, finding endless sources in this tropical paradise. She focuses on exotic flowers, seashells, shore birds, sea life, and delightful scenes of families making memories on the beach. She also paints still life, landscapes, and abstracts, and developed a distinctive style in her sports series.
